Open Dramaturgy

CuP 03, CuP 07, CuP 09

In the frame of open dramaturgy we will establish a weekly encounter between the 1st and 2nd year students of MA CuP. It will be an open format for exchange amongst the participants in order to create a common space and time for reflection on and critical discussion and further elaboration of possible modes of working - all the same alone or together - in the field of choreography and performance. In the course of the seminar we will encourage the development of sketches, material collections and research procedures and protocols. All these will be discussed in relation to methods of production and collaboration with regard to the upcoming Cup Pieces 2013.

The idea is to provoke and strengthen the ability to formulate aesthetic positions alongside the contexts and means that are available in various fields of art: How to proceed from an initial idea? How to succeed all the way through always specific materialities? How to invent skills and techniques which support a further complexification of their components? How to locate oneself in certain traditions, institutional environments and an ever changing landscape of various practices? How to open up one´s own constraints in confrontation with collaborators and always emancipated spectators? How to also kill one´s darlings for the sake of the inner logic of the composition? How to do art that is better than oneself?

We will watch videos, read essays on (dance) dramaturgy, and visit exhibitions and performances of different kinds together. The most important aim of the course is to establish an atmosphere in which everyone is enabled to bring up one´s own attempts for further artistic practice and research.

We strongly recommend Open Dramaturgy to all the students of MA CuP as a platform to meet and share their different approaches respectively achive a collective format.
