Strategic Aesthetics: Subversion in Contemporary Performance
BA-ATW-05; MA-ATW-04, 05; CUP-ATW-02, 07, 09
With the rise of mediatized society and appropriation of subversive cultural strategies by the market and creative industry, artists today are confronted with several paradoxes when using and reflecting about the strategic notion of subversion. On one side there is an awareness about the appropriation of radical strategies by the mainstream culture and spectacle, on the other a deep need to rethink the aesthetic relations between art and politics. The seminar will focus on the artists who are in their work crossing among different media and artistic fields to develop new ways of subverting and disclosing contemporary structures of power and spectacular dimension of contemporary politics.
