CuP 01, CuP 02, CuP 07, CuP 08, CuP 09
Starting: 13. 10. at 12.00 – 14.00, after that every 14 days from 12.00 – 16.00.
In the seminar we will examine the philosophical and cultural concepts of passivity and relate them to various artistic processes in contemporary performance and visual art. We will deal with the position and uderstanding of the contemporary artist and observe the ways how the philosophical understanding of passivity can influcence the reflection about the artistic work, creative processes and social role of the artist. We will study several philosophical concepts (by example Levinas, Agamben, Blanchot) and analyse artistic manifestations which celebrate the passivity and other similar concepts (laziness, stillness, doing nothing, boredom, waiting, etc.). How is passivity related to the prevailing aesthetical concepts which were in 20th century circulating around ´doing less´, reduction, chance, minimal gesture, delegation? Even if in its recent history performance is always strongly related to the act of doing, the passivity can open another insight into the practice of contemporary performance.
