With a Strange Voice

The voice is the place where body and mind meet. On one side political tool and instrument to express subjectivity, to give voice and speak up for oneself and others, and on the other side disembodied organ, manifesting both in and outside the body: Listening to our own voice might remind us of listening to a stranger.
The voice is a hyperphysical movement. Dancing somewhere in between the body it manifests in forms of thought, breath, sound, song and language. 'The grain of the voice' as Roland Barthes defines it, marks a split between voice and languages and defines the voice as a form of bodily communication escaping the laws and limits of the linguistic sphere. The voice breaks with the hierarchy of rational language and claims territories in which the body can exist outside of categorization.
This seminars aims at exploring the voice and listening itself as a generative and transformative tool in performative practice. We will work within different states of breathing speaking, sounding and singing. We will intensify, fragment, deconstruct and 'stranger' the voice and will define it as a trickster for becoming, a place and motor from where performance, movement and temporary identities can emerge.
